The pictures on this webpage are fairly small to permit fast loading and

(800X600) - This is a pretty fast loading resolution that will give a lot of detail.
(1600X1200) - This is the resolution of the Original scan. if you want
to save the picture on your hard drive this is the one to use. It will
take a long time to load.

Taking a Break - Duncan Hill Trail above Camp 1. The Duncan Hill trail is located on the ridge on the east side of the Entiat River.

Above camp 1 the trail climbs through forest and breaks out into meadows. The trail switchbacks up to the ridge crest on the east side and then crosses over to the steep slopes of the west side as shown here.

Upper Ice Creek can be seen at upper left with Mt. Maude and Seven Finger Jack at the head of the ridge above Ice Creek. The trail traverses around the basin to the right and then begins a serious descent to the Anthem Creek Trail.

Buck Mtn is rocky snow covered peak to right of center. Glacier Peak is just beyond Buck Mtn. The lookout was destroyed some time ago.

You get a good view of the Entiat valley and Entiat ridge beyond from the old lookout site. This view shows the large tributary stream, Ice Creek and the impressive peaks of Mt. Maude and Seven Finger Jack at its head.

Looking east you see the valley of the North Fork of the Entiat below you. To the right you can see the rather benign western slope of Pyramid Mountain. From Lake Chelan, its eastern face is much more rugged. You can also see the peaks of the Chelan Summit in the far background.

You can see the meadows below where we spent our first night. The rusty bolt in the foreground is one of the anchors that held the old lookout down.

A few hundred feet below the trail's high point, we found an old sheepherder's camp. There wasn't much level ground but the old timers had chipped out a level area. Shelby got the idea of building a bench on the uphill side and we all pitched in carrying up large rocks from the stream beyond.
