Troop 24 is a troop in the Puget Sound District of the Mt. Baker Council located in Washington State. The troop is sponsored by the Martha Lake Community Club as part of their service to the community and because they believe in the Scouting program.

Troop 24 meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 at the Community Club. Parents are welcome to attend the Troop meetings and observe what’s going on. Outings are normally scheduled for the second weekend of the month.

Dues are usually collected three times a year. Statements for your son’s dues are enclosed with the troop newsletter. Dues for the year need to be paid in full by Dec. 1st so that the troop will have enough funds to recharter your boy for the following year.

Because dues only cover a portion of the total cost of Scouting, there must be additional funds raised during the year. Normally the parents club has only one fund raiser a year - operating a concession stand for a car show at the Bellevue Community College on the first weekend in June. Funds from this activity are used to defray the cost of Summer Camp or another summer activity such as one of the High Adventure Treks.

Scouts participate in this effort by getting donations from local businesses or helping in operating the booth during the fair in order to be eligible for these funds.

Meetings are held throughout the year except on Holidays and when the majority of the troop is at camp or on a high adventure trek. During the meetings, the scouts work on merit badges, rank advancement, and plan menus, etc. for upcoming outings. Several times a year and often during the summer, a “FUN NIGHT” is substituted in lieu of the regular meeting.

Merit Badges and Rank Awards are formally presented at a ceremony known as a Court of Honor. Although badges for rank advancement are presented at a normal scout meeting, usually the same night as the scout earns the award, it isn’t until the Court of Honor that the scout is presented the neckerchief for that rank, along with the card and mother’s pin to his Mother.

These special events are gatherings of scouts and their families for either a pot-luck supper or dessert social. They are normally held in January or February, May, and September or October. When a boy’s parents stand beside him as he receives his advancements, it is usually hard to tell who is prouder.

Parent Committee Meetings are held monthly at the Community Club. All parents are urged to attend these functions.
